York Beach

York Beach lies close to the town of York in the central part of the Freetown Peninsula. A visit combines beach time with culture and history: learn about Krio culture and the legacy of the slave trade, and look out for humpback whales during their yearly migration.
The beach is about 5 km south of River No. 2 and roughly 40 km from Freetown, around an hour by car or taxi. Shared taxis also run to York town, which is within walking distance of the beach. Two guesthouses in York offer bungalows and Sierra Leonean food.
