National Railway Museum

Opened in 2005 in the old railway workshops at Cline Town, east of central Freetown, the museum tells the story of the Sierra Leone Railway. The line began passenger services to the provinces in 1898 and closed in the 1970s.

The collection includes a 1955 Beyer-Garratt steam locomotive, a 1915 Manning Wardle engine, diesel locomotives, the Governor's coach and a royal coach from 1961, plus photographs and artefacts. The Monuments and Relics Commission calls it a place where children find pleasure in their history.
