King Jimmy Steps
Monument · King Jimmy Wharf, Freetown
According to the Monuments and Relics Commission, King Jimmy began as a general market on the Freetown waterfront and was later turned into a slave market by Portuguese traders.
The Commission notes that the area was neglected for centuries. The Gullah Redemption Mission Sierra Leone now has a project underway to revitalise the site. It lies beside today's King Jimmy market and wharf, near the De Ruyter Stone.
