Firing Point and Guns, Dublin

Near the old wharf at Dublin on the Banana Islands are a firing point and cannon, proclaimed a national monument in 1956. In the 18th century, before Freetown existed, a Royal Navy squadron sent to suppress piracy on this coast was based at the islands.

A 2009 inspection recorded three cannon at the firing point, one dated 1813, and a defensive wall topped with guns. Two naval tombstones in the Dublin cemetery, dated 1712 and 1847, are also proclaimed. The Banana Islands are about 20 minutes by boat from Kent.
