Bureh Beach

Bureh Beach is a long crescent of golden sand in the southern part of the Freetown Peninsula, surrounded by forest. Frequent winds bring regular waves, and it has been a favourite with surfers since the 1990s. It is home to a surf club.
The beach is named after Bai Bureh, who led the Hut Tax rebellion against British colonial rule. The swell can make swimming difficult, but rocky headlands shelter quieter coves and rock pools; take care in the water.
Bureh is about 5 km from Kent. From Freetown the drive takes about an hour and a half depending on traffic. Guesthouses and small resorts are within walking distance of the surf club.
