The Monuments and Relics Commission describes Bonthe's clock tower as one of the oldest in Sierra Leone, and the only one with its own working clock, though the clock is out of order at present.
Bonthe, on Sherbro Island, was once a busy port and still has colonial buildings and Krio board houses. Getting there takes a long drive to Yagoi, then a boat down the estuary.
